The 2nd Pan-African Media Summit took place in Arusha, Tanzania, from July 14th to 17th, 2025, under the theme: “Advancing Media and Communication Regulations for Journalism Excellence in Africa.”

The Summit brought together more than 500 editors, journalists, and media stakeholders from across the continent in a powerful demonstration of solidarity and shared ambition for the future of journalism. It served as a vital platform to exchange best practices, address challenges facing African and global media, and propose innovative regulatory and policy approaches to uphold ethical journalism. Key topics included the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), freedom of expression, and the promotion of inclusive journalism.

Dr. Tamer Atabarut delivered a speech on a topic central to today’s global discourse: “Journalism in the Age of Data and Digital Rights – A Sustainable Development Perspective.” He emphasized that as information travels faster than ever, journalism faces the dual challenge of adapting to emerging technologies while safeguarding digital rights and maintaining public trust.

“This moment is not just about media—it’s about development,” Dr. Atabarut noted. He highlighted that inclusive digital media and ethical journalism are crucial to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across Africa and beyond.
