New EU PRIMA Project NBS360: Scalable Nature-Based Solutions for Resilient Water Management in the Mediterranean
We are proud to announce that researchers from the Institute of Environmental Sciences (IESc) have secured funding for the new project "NBS360: A Transformative Innovation Ecosystem for Resilient Water Management through Scalable Nature-Based Solutions in the Mediterranean."
Funded by PRIMA (Water Management in the Nexus), NBS360 answers the crucial need for water security in the Mediterranean. The project aims to create a 360-degree innovation ecosystem that weaves together science, digital innovation, and participatory governance to make Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) mainstream .
The Boğaziçi University team is led by Principal Investigator Nadim Copty, joined by researchers Irem Daloğlu Çetinkaya and Cem İskender Aydın. They will collaborate with a consortium of 13 partners from Greece, Germany, Bulgaria, Spain, Italy, Morocco, Tunisia, and Türkiye .
The project features seven demonstration sites, including Alibeyköy (Türkiye). This peri-urban catchment faces ecological pressure from urbanization and acts as a critical potable water source for Istanbul. The project will deploy real-time sensors, digital twins, and decision support systems to address flood resilience and water quality in the basin.
